Gourmet Dining Room Change and Culinary Competitions

Welcome to the Culinary Arts Gourmet Dining Room!
We are off and running in our second year. This year looks to be exciting for our students. We have made some minor changes in the dining room this year. We took out our old bar; the old bar was falling apart and had some issues that we could no longer patch together. Look for our new portable bar when you visit the dining room.

This year we are once again competing in the American Culinary Federation competitions. This will be our second time competing at this level; last year was our first year. We learned a great deal about competing at this level and hope to improve our score. Students in the second year are encouraged to tryout for the team and today we are hosting the tryouts. The competition is held over a weekend starting on a Friday. There are three days of competition; starting with a skills competition, hot food competition and finally ending with a cold food competition. Teams from all over the Midwest will compete to make it to nationals. As we learned last year it is a very tough three days for the team.

To help facilitate the cost of taking on such a venture we are now soliciting donations for the team. If you are interested in making a donation to the team I would encourage you to contact Chef John Johnson C.E.C. C.C.E. A.C.E. the coach for this year’s team or the MATC Foundation. You can email Chef Johnson at jgjohnson@matcmadison.edu . You can also donate on line by going to this link: http://matcmadison.edu/donate-now . Once you are there click on the paypal donate button. Fill out the appropriate information and when you get to the next page type in the comment box to make your donation for the Culinary/Baking Pastry Arts competition fund. This is a new fund so it has not been officially set up in the foundation list but will be in the future. We have a goal of raising $20,000 for this year’s competition.

As always we appreciate your patronage in the gourmet dining room and look forward to having you as our guest. When you eat in the gourmet dining room you are giving students the opportunity they need to master their skills and work at becoming successful Chefs! Have a great week Chef Short
